As a general rule, keep in mind that Patagonia’s weather is highly unpredictable, often allowing you to experience all four seasons in a single day. The best strategy is to dress in layers, so you’re prepared for everything—from scorching sun to cold, snow, rain, and strong winds.

It’s essential to pack enough clothing to face the elements during the day (daypack) and also bring a dry change of clothes for the evening. Here are some key recommendations:

• Base layer: Merino wool or synthetic fabric for warmth.
• Fleece jacket: Helps retain heat.
• Outer shell: Waterproof and windproof to protect against harsh weather.
• Hiking pants: Comfortable and breathable (avoid jeans!).
• Additional essentials: Thermal leggings, down jacket, hat, sunglasses, underwear, and multiple pairs of seamless hiking socks (to prevent blisters and chafing).

The weather in Patagonia is famous for bringing all four seasons in one day. Erratic temperatures and changing conditions with wind, sun, rain, and snow are common. During the summer months (October-April), temperatures range from highs of 18-20°C (67-74°F) to nighttime lows of 8-12°C (45-55°F). Summer days are long, allowing you to make the most of the outdoors, with natural light lasting until 11 pm around the summer solstice on December 21. In winter, the winds calm, and the weather is generally more stable, despite colder temperatures and higher chances of snowfall. Average high temperatures in winter range from 14-16°C (55-60°F), with lows between 3-4°C (35-40°F).

Most nationalities do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days. Upon arrival, you will receive a Tourist Card, which you must keep. This document also allows you to access benefits such as VAT exemption on accommodations.

• Visa: Most nationalities, including citizens of the United States, the European Union, Canada, and other Latin American countries, do not require a visa to enter Chile for tourism and can stay for up to 90 days.
• Tourist Card: Upon entering the country, a Tourist Card (also known as the “PDI slip”) will be issued, which you must keep during your stay and hand over when you leave. This card is essential for certain benefits, such as VAT exemption on accommodations.
• VAT Exemption (19%) on Accommodations.
  • Conditions for Exemption:
    • Present the Tourist Card issued upon entry.
    • Pay for accommodations in foreign currency (such as U.S. dollars or euros) or with a credit card issued outside of Chile.
    • The hotel must be registered with the Internal Revenue Service (SII) and offer this exemption.
  • Important: If you pay in Chilean pesos or if the hotel is not registered to offer the exemption, the 19% VAT will apply.
• Requirement for Australians: Since May 9, 2020, Australian citizens must obtain an eVisa before traveling to Chile.

Riverside Camp: Our Riverside Camp, located in the Serrano River area, just 10 minutes by car from Torres del Paine National Park, is a unique accommodation that combines sustainability, comfort, and innovative design. Built with 27 tons of recycled plastic, it reflects our commitment to the environment and responsible tourism.

The camp has 11 tents, each designed to accommodate 2 guests, with the option of a double bed or 2 single beds, and a private bathroom. Our 5-meter diameter tents offer 24/7 electricity, heating, and electric blankets to ensure your comfort.

Every aspect of Riverside Camp has been carefully designed to provide you with an unforgettable experience in harmony with nature—an outstanding example of sustainability in action.

Campsites: At the campsites within Torres del Paine National Park, we provide top-quality equipment from internationally recognized brands, designed to withstand extreme weather conditions. For added comfort, we use triple tents for two people and double tents for single occupancy.

Refugios de montaña: Strategically located along the most iconic hiking routes, the refugios offer a warm and functional atmosphere with shared bunk-style rooms for 6 people, shared bathrooms, and hot water. Meals are hearty and enjoyed in a communal setting.

The meals prepared by Chile Nativo are based on fresh and natural products, carefully balanced to suit the physical effort of each day.

Our “box lunches” include items such as beef, chicken, guanaco, or vegetables, homemade bread, a variety of cheeses, avocado, tomato, lettuce, a mix of nuts, fruit, coffee, and tea, many of them fresh and local products.

When camping near a mountain lodge, breakfast and dinner are served there, while lunches are provided by the lodges. Additionally, on certain excursions, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy an authentic Patagonian-style lamb barbecue.

We also accommodate special dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan, and allergy-friendly options. Please let us know in advance if your group has specific dietary needs so we can ensure a delicious and safe culinary experience for everyone.

For trips in Chilean Patagonia, at Chile Nativo, we work with local guides who are professionally trained in Wilderness First Aid (WFR) and are registered with SERNATUR and CONAF. We invite you to learn more about each of our guides on our website under the “About Us – Team” section.

At Chile Nativo, we have our own transportation for the transfer of our guests, and depending on the group size, we use a Mercedes Benz Sprinter van or small SUVs. For logistical support, we use pick-up trucks, while for independent travel bookings within the park, the transportation is by bus. All our vehicles are equipped with air conditioning and can communicate with our main office via VHF radio.

In general, our hiking excursions are suitable for individuals in good physical condition who are accustomed to walking. Experienced and fit hikers will find the W Trek and the Paine Circuit (“O Trek”) ideal. Those with limited hiking experience may prefer gentler programs, such as our Puma Tracking.

Our horseback riding excursions range from 4 to 6 hours of riding per day and are therefore designed for guests with some equestrian experience rather than for those who want to learn how to ride. Our kayaking excursions are suitable for beginners and are led by professional kayak guides. Other programs, such as the W Fast Trak or W Plus, combine a variety of outdoor activities with overnight stays in hotels and our own Riverside Camp. Another innovation, like our award-winning Estancias & E-Bikes program, combines electric bikes and stays in Patagonian Estancias around Torres del Paine National Park, contributing to the reduction of overtourism. ANSWER: The booking process is simple:

• Complete your Forms: Once you decide to proceed, we will ask you to complete our Contact and Health Forms, as well as a Liability Waiver for each traveler. This allows us to prepare for any special requirements.
• Receive your Payment Link: After receiving your forms, we will send you a secure link to pay a 25% deposit.
• Confirm your Adventure: Your reservation will be confirmed once we receive the deposit. The remaining balance must be paid 70 days before the start of the program.

All our vehicles and guides are equipped with VHF radio systems, allowing us to stay in constant contact with our headquarters and the relevant authorities. In the main refuges and campsites in Torres del Paine, such as Paine Grande, Los Cuernos, Grey, and the Las Torres sector (Refugio Central), you can find Wi-Fi, although it is usually at an additional cost, while others may have limited access or no access at all. When visiting remote locations, we carry a satellite communication device that keeps you connected when there is no mobile coverage, offering global two-way text messaging and SOS alerts.

It is mandatory to arrive at least one day before the start of the program to do the briefing with our team, where we go over all the details of the expedition. Additionally, if your schedule allows, we suggest staying one or two extra days at the end to make your experience even more memorable.

This additional time is ideal for adding unique activities like a full-day kayaking trip among glaciers, horseback riding through Patagonian landscapes, or a wildlife-watching excursion to see humpback whales or the king penguin, or our Puma Tracking program.

In our programs, we use water from rivers and streams. The glacial water in Torres del Paine National Park is safe, clean, and free of parasites. We have never had any issues with our guests drinking it. However, if you feel uncomfortable consuming this water, we recommend bringing water purification tablets with you.
