Embark on a unique adventure to the southernmost point of the continent, at Cape Froward, where the challenging weather and the Cross of the Seas mark the beginning of this exploration through the Strait of Magellan.
Over three days of sea kayaking, we will explore the majestic southern coast of South America, discovering pristine landscapes and incredibly diverse wildlife. We will camp in remote locations, paddle alongside southern whales and dolphins, and enjoy breathtaking views from the summit of Mount Tarn. The experience concludes with a delicious traditional Patagonian lamb barbecue. A journey that will awaken all your senses!

Where it’s located
Cape Froward is located on the Brunswick Peninsula, in the Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica Region, in southern Chile. It sits in the middle section of the Strait of Magellan, approximately 30 km southwest of the historic Fort Bulnes and 90 km southwest of Punta Arenas.

Get ready for a unique and challenging adventure in southern Chile, exploring the pristine shores of the Strait of Magellan on a three-day kayaking journey.
Guided by experienced professionals, you’ll take on a demanding yet safe experience that will immerse you in the full splendor of Patagonia.
Day 1 - Ascending Mount Tarn: Following Darwin’s footsteps
A private transfer will pick us up for a one-hour drive to the starting point of our hike, where we’ll enjoy a hot breakfast. During his exploratory journey, Charles Darwin became the first person to climb this mountain, now known as Mount Tarn.
At our camp, we’ll have a brief orientation before preparing for the ascent. The hike covers approximately 6 miles (9.5 km) to the summit, where we’ll spend about 45 minutes taking in the stunning views and enjoying lunch surrounded by breathtaking places. We’ll then begin our descent, with sweeping views of the Strait of Magellan and the vast islands below.

Day 2 - Kayaking the Strait: From San Isidro Lighthouse to Bahía del Indio
After breakfast at our camp, we’ll begin our kayaking adventure. We’ll prepare our gear and go through a thorough safety briefing before setting out on the water. Throughout the excursion, a support zodiac will accompany us, ensuring safety and transporting our food and equipment to the designated rest stops.
After about two hours of paddling, we’ll reach the historic San Isidro Lighthouse and continue toward Bahía el Águila. Once there, we’ll enjoy lunch and visit the ruins of an old whaling station that operated in the Strait of Magellan more than a century ago.
In the afternoon, we’ll keep paddling southwest along the coast until we arrive at Bahía del Indio, where we’ll set up camp. We’ll have time to relax, explore the surroundings, and even try our luck fishing for dinner.

Day 3 - Paddling toward the end of the continent
On our third day, we’ll continue refining our kayaking skills as we explore increasingly remote and pristine coastlines. As we move closer to the southernmost tip of the continent, the landscapes grow wilder and more dramatic, showcasing the true essence of Patagonia.
We’ll set up camp in Rosas Bay, just a few kilometers from Cape Froward, and if weather conditions are favorable, we may continue our journey to its iconic southern point that same day.

Day 4 - Hike to the end of the American continent
Upon arrival at Cape Froward, we’ll hike up the hill crowned by the Cross of the Seas, which marks the symbolic meeting point of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The ascent covers about 340 meters (1,115 feet) to the summit, where we’ll take in the panoramic views before descending to meet our zodiac boat. From there, we’ll return to the site of our first night’s camp.
On the way back, we’ll stop at the historic San Isidro Lighthouse to explore its restored structure and small exhibits of antique maritime artifacts.
Our journey concludes at the starting point, where we’ll share a traditional Patagonian lamb roast, accompanied by local folk music and a well-earned celebration.
