Overview
Cape Froward – named for its strong climate, this is the southern tip of the American Continent where the Cruz de los Mares, (Cross of the Seas) stands proudly and visible from afar. This trip takes us further than any road that exists, exploring the Strait of Magellan. During three days of sea kayaking, we explore South America’s immense coast line and impressive waters that only sailors and some brave do by foot until reaching the southernmost point of the continent. Each night we’ll camp on the shores at remote backcountry locations where we will have the privilege of admiring the incredibly diverse flora and fauna found only in these parts of the region. Hike to the summit of Monte Tarn, which offers extraordinary views of the Strait of Magellan and it’s break taking landscapes. An adventure that entices all the senses, we’ll have opportunities to kayak alongside whales, Austral dolphins, and a wide array of birdlife & waterfowl. A private transfer will pick us up taking us 1 hour to the start of our trek, where we’ll enjoy a warm breakfast. Today’s hike takes us to a historical place which has a landscape of evergreen forest, great mountains, and lots of flora and fauna. On a journey of exploration, Charles Darwin was the first person to climb this mountain now known as Monte Tarn. At our camp, we complete a short briefing before preparing for our ascent.
Hiking about 6 miles (9.5 km) to reach the top, we’ll stay about 45 minutes, contemplating and enjoying our lunch accompanied by incredible views. We’ll start our descent and enjoy the view of the Strait of Magellan and large islands below us. This trek will have a variety of flora, evergreen forest, wildlife and weather conditions which is part of the region’s typical climate (wind, rain or snow).

After about 2 hours we reach San Isidro lighthouse where we pass by and continue to El Aguila Bay, where we prepare lunch and visit the ruins in this place which used to function as a whale station in the Magellan Strait, more than 100 years ago. After lunch we continue following the shore heading southwest until we reach Bahía del Indio, where we will make our campsite, and take time to relax, explore a bit on land and have a try at catching our dinner from the sea! If we are lucky we can share this along with a great bottle of Chilean wine for dinner.
