One Week at the End of the World

Get ready for a week of exploration in Tierra del Fuego, where each day surprises you with breathtaking landscapes and unforgettable moments only the end of the world can offer. From sailing through the Strait of Magellan to hiking snow-covered trails, every activity has been thoughtfully curated to provide an authentic, comfortable, and adventure-rich experience.

Day 1 - Visit to Pali Aike National Park – Ferry Crossing to Tierra del Fuego

In the morning, we’ll pick you up from the hotel and head straight to Pali Aike National Park. After a 3-hour drive, we’ll go on a 3-hour hike through ancient lava fields and observe craters formed by eruptions around 16,000 years ago.

Then, we’ll continue our journey to catch the ferry that will take us to the renowned island of Tierra del Fuego. We’ll settle into our lodging and enjoy a group dinner while discussing the adventures that lie ahead.

Day 2 - Scenic Drive Through the Pampas to Lago Blanco

After a hearty breakfast, we’ll embark on a scenic drive with frequent stops to admire the vast, endless steppe and the stunning sub-Antarctic landscape that unfolds before us. Our journey takes us deep into the heart of Tierra del Fuego until we reach Lago Blanco.

In the evening, we’ll stay at Hostería Las Lengas, where we’ll gather for a warm, cozy dinner and enjoy a restful night.

Day 3 - Hike to Pietro Grande

Today we’ll explore the Lago Blanco area and venture into sub-Antarctic forests, entering Karukinka Natural Park. We’ll see how beavers—brought by settlers for the fur trade—have reshaped the environment, altering rivers and the local ecosystem.

Then we’ll take a 4-hour round-trip hike to the summit of Cerro Pietro Grande (495 m / 1,624 ft), where we’ll enjoy breathtaking views contrasting the northern pampas with the southern Antarctic forest.

We’ll end the day returning to our lodge to rest.

Day 4 - Sailing through Fjords and Glaciers

After a hearty breakfast, we’ll take a short scenic drive to Caleta María, passing by Lake Fagnano. Here, we’ll embark on an 8-hour navigation to observe sea lion colonies, other marine species, and impressive glaciers, all while taking in the majestic views of the Darwin Mountain Range.

Upon returning to Caleta María, our driver will take us back to the lodge to enjoy a well-deserved Patagonian lamb barbecue.

Day 5 - Exploring Yendegaia National Park

Today’s adventure takes us to one of the southernmost national parks in the world: Yendegaia National Park.

“Yendegaia,” meaning “Deep Bay” in the Yaghan language, is a unique park in Tierra del Fuego, known for its vast pampas, fjords, channels, and untouched mountains. This UNESCO Biosphere Reserve was established thanks to a donation of over 93,900 acres by the Yendegaia Foundation, led by Douglas and Kristine Tompkins, along with an additional 274,287 acres contributed by the Chilean government. Framed by the Darwin Range and Lake Fagnano, the park offers pristine landscapes and extraordinary beauty at the world’s end.

After the round-trip hike, we’ll return to our cozy accommodation.

Day 6 - Scenic Route to Porvenir. Visit to King Penguin Reserve and Porvenir Museum

After breakfast, we’ll travel 3.5 hours through forests and pampas to reach the King Penguin Nature Reserve, home to the only colony of king penguins outside the sub-Antarctic islands. These charming, relaxed penguins will offer unforgettable moments as they preen and play in their natural habitat.

We’ll then continue on to the town of Porvenir, where we’ll explore the Porvenir Museum on foot.

We’ll end the day at Hotel Barlovento, where we’ll spend our final night of this incredible adventure.

Day 7 - Visit to the Stromatolite Park & Ferry Crossing

Today we’ll discover stromatolites, formations created by some of the Earth’s earliest living organisms. Those found in this lagoon may be between 10,000 and 12,000 years old, dating back to the Holocene. With only 14 sites worldwide containing active stromatolites, this park plays a vital role in their preservation.

Afterward, we’ll cross the Strait of Magellan by ferry, arriving in Punta Arenas, where your adventure concludes. If you prefer, we can continue with a 3-hour scenic drive to Puerto Natales.

Alberto Baeriswyl House Museum

The Alberto Baeriswyl House Museum is a living museum and home that showcases traditional 1920s decor, allowing guests to spend the night in a traditional early 19th-century dwelling. It was the main house in Puerto Yartou, the first wood factory in the region, and an extremely profitable initiative for heating and housing during those pre-modern days. The bathrooms are shared, and there are several common areas and a picturesque dining room to enjoy.
