Itinerary

Patagonia’s hidden winter landscapes

Winter invites a quieter way of traveling. This 5-day journey offers a gentle introduction to Patagonia, with soft hikes, peaceful trails, and thoughtfully paced days designed for comfort and enjoyment.

A serene alternative to peak-season travel, it reveals the region’s beauty in one of its most magical and tranquil moments.

Day 1 - Zoom out of the Paine Massif

Our journey begins in Puerto Natales, where we will drive for two hours to Estancia Lazo, a 13,000-hectare cattle ranch founded over a century ago. From there, we will hike into Torres del Paine National Park along a mostly flat trail, where we can observe the local wildlife.

We will reach Laguna Honda and continue on to the Lago Toro viewpoint. After a short but winding descent to Weber Bridge, our private transfer will be waiting to take us to Hotel Lago Grey, located on the shores of the Grey Lake, where we will be welcomed with a freshly prepared dinner and stunning views.

Day 2 - Heading to Grey Glacier

After a hearty breakfast, we’ll start out walk through a beech forest inhabited by woodpeckers until we reach the shores of Lake Grey. After a 30-minute walk, we’ll board a 3-hour boat ride that navigates around blue-toned icebergs, leading us to the massive face of Grey Glacier, where we’ll pause to admire its textures, lines, and colors.

On the return journey, we’ll observe the famous “ice mushrooms” shaped by the wind atop the peaks of Paine Grande. Once back on land, we’ll enjoy a picnic-style lunch and, if weather conditions, group dynamics, and timing allow, we may take a short optional walk along the Misceláneo Trail, a gentle path offering views toward Lake Toro and outstanding panoramic vistas of the Paine Massif, including a visit to the Park Administration Visitor Center.

Day 3 - Cuernos Viewpoint & Paine River

Today we’ll travel along the Paine River, passing Lake Pehoé on our way to Pudeto, where we’ll begin the first easy round-trip hike of the day. We’ll stop by Salto Grande Waterfall and enjoy the boardwalk area, which offers spectacular views of the lake as well as the Paine Grande and Cuernos peaks.

We’ll continue along a gentle trail, passing through an open area that shows the impact of the 2005 wildfire in the national park. This path takes us along the black sand beach of Lake Nordenskjöld before reaching the top of the Cuernos Lookout.

On our way back, we’ll enjoy a refreshing snack and a short break before our private transfer takes us to the next trailhead, where we’ll ascend to a viewpoint offering a panoramic view of the Paine Massif.

After a relaxed breakfast and a private transfer, we’ll begin our day at the Lake Sarmiento ranger station, from where we’ll head toward the Laguna Amarga area.

At a gentle pace, we’ll follow a beautiful trail that’s perfect for wildlife observation. After about an hour of walking, we’ll reach a rock overhang that shelters ancient cave paintings estimated to be over 6,000 years old.

Later, our transfer will be waiting us at Laguna Amarga Ranger Station. Here, it’s common to spot wild guanacos grazing freely, rheas on the move, and a variety of native flora and fauna. We’ll wrap up this day of photographic safari with a return to our accommodation.

In the morning, we will begin our journey back to Puerto Natales, traveling for about an hour to the Milodón Cave area, a site rich in geological history.

With panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes, this is a perfect spot for photography before continuing to a private reserve where we can observe condoreras (natural Andean condor nesting sites) and native lenga forests.

After exploring this remarkable natural setting, we will enjoy a traditional Patagonian lamb barbecue before visiting the Milodón Cave Natural Monument — home to a 200-meter-long cavern where the remains of a giant ground sloth and other early Patagonian animals from the Pleistocene era were discovered.
