Itinerary
Day 1
Transfer to Torres del Paine National Park – Round Trip Base of the Towers Hike
- 2 hours by transfer
- 8-10 hour hike, 22 km
- 1.5 hours by transfer
- Night at Mountain Refugio or Hotel (BL-D)
An early morning transfer will drive you from Puerto Natales to the National Park, traveling along the quiet coast and through the pampas and vast landscapes of Patagonia. Upon arrival to the Las Torres sector, we begin this iconic trek as we make our way uphill, first following the Ascencio River into the Ascencio Valley. Hiking the base of the towers during the winter months brings a quiet bliss otherwise not experienced during the crowded high season.
After an hour’s hike uphill, we’ll stop to admire the valley: its contours, textures and panoramic views of Lake Nordenskjöld.
The next 2 hours take us through tall beech forests, past waterfalls, then up a huge terminal moraine (the ridge formed at a glacier’s end point).
After reaching the lookout point 900 meters above sea level, we’ll be rewarded by the arresting sight of the Towers themselves.
Here, take your time to have lunch, take photos and enjoy the unforgettable views.
Once rested, we’ll descend along the same path to meet our transfer service which will take us 1.5 hours through the park’s beautiful wintery scenery to our accommodation for the evening. We’ll share a delicious meal together before tucking in for the night.
Day 2
Full-Day Sea Kayaking on Grey Lake & Grey River
- 30 minute transfer
- 4-5 hours paddling, 25 km
- 5-30 minute transfer (depending on accommodation)
- Night at Mountain Refugio or Hotel (B-BL-D)
Today our second activity of this multisport adventure begins – kayaking the Grey River! After an energizing breakfast, our private transfer will take us to Grey Lake. Here, on its shores and surrounded by views of Paine Grande and Grey Glacier, our kayaking guide will give us an introduction to kayaking safety and paddling techniques.
Following this, we’ll board our kayaks and enjoy two hours paddling the lake and river, weaving through floating icebergs that have calved from Grey Glacier and been sculpted into almost postmodern shapes by the wind and sun.
While paddling, don’t forget to look up: from the waters we’ll have fantastic views of Paine Grande, Los Cuernos and Cordillera Olguín.
The textures and colors of these enormous granite peaks and walls interplay wonderfully with Grey Lake’s turquoise waters and winter’s special touch. Leaving Grey Lake, we’ll begin our descent down Grey River as it snakes through canyons bubbling with rapids and framed by steep rock faces.
On the way we’ll see different types of aquatic birds, including the spectacled duck and torrent duck. We’ll paddle for 25 km alongside the Paine Massif, down Grey River until it joins the Serrano River.
After a total of 4-5 hours on the water, our expedition ends at Serrano Village, where we’ll take a transfer to our accommodation to relax, rest, and enjoy dinner surrounded by wonderful company.
Day 3
Full-Day Horseback Trail Ride Trail at Estancia Lazo
- 2 hour transfer
- 5 hours of walking, trotting and galloping
- 1.5 hour transfer to Puerto Natales (B-BL)
Early in the morning our private transfer will take us north through the national park as we soak in the park’s winter wonderland landscapes one last time before heading to Estancia Lazo, a working cattle ranch which sits just east of Torres del Paine.
Today’s destination is a valley on the edge of Torres del Paine National Park, reached via horseback along a path that will take us across rivers and through memorable landscapes of native lenga forests and lakes. Riding horseback in winter is a beautiful way to connect with the elements of Patagonia and enjoy the quiet and calmness of nature that this time of year brings.
After leaving our horses in their caretakers’ hands once again, we’ll take a private transfer back to Puerto Natales where our journey ends.
