Across the Estrecho de Magallanes from Punta Arenas, the Tierra del Fuego archipelago (a group of islands) sits with its extreme landscapes and busy ports. Belonging to both Chile and Argentina, the Chilean side is far less developed, wild, and rugged; full of pampas, mossy native forests, peat bogs and rivers flush with trout. Here lies Parque Nacional Yendegaia – a biosphere reserve and the last park added to the ¨Route of the Parks of Patagonia¨. This private territory was once traveled by the Selk´nam people by land and Yámanas via water. Visitors come to Tierra del Fuego to hike it´s less discovered trails, cruise the Beagle Channel y Cape Horn, and see the wildlife – King and Magellanic penguins, Patagonian foxes, guanacos, woodpeckers, sea lions & more.
