Itinerario

Día 1

Full-Day Sailing Expedition to Carlos III Island

  • 1.5 hours by private transfer
  • 8-10 hours sailing
  • Night at Carlos III Eco-Camp (L-D)

You’ll be picked up early from your hotel and taken to the embarkation point to begin our day’s sailing through Tierra del Fuego’s canals and fjords.

Our destination is Carlos III Island, located close to Francisco Coloano Marine Park. We’ll sail for nine hours, passing a number of historic locations from Chile’s maritime history, including Cabo Froward, Fort Bulnes, Bahía el Águila, San Isidro lighthouse and Mount Tarn.

Have your cameras ready around 6:30 pm, when we reach an optimum location for whale-watching. Depending on weather conditions, we’ll arrive at Carlos III Island at 7:30 pm.

Here, at the scientific field station, we’ll hear from researchers and marine biologists before having dinner and settling into our dome accommodation.

Día 2

Full-day marine wildlife safari, visit Santa Ines Glacier

  • 8 – 10 hours sailing
  • Night at Carlos III Ecocamp (B-L-D)

After breakfast at the eco camp we’ll sail to Francisco Coloano Marine Park. Full of glaciers, shard-like fjords and strong winds, this marine reserve marks the union of the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, and provides the sheltered waters and food necessary to house and protect a great diversity of marine fauna, sea and land birds.

A biologist will accompany us on our journey, pointing out markings and identification techniques specific to this area’s wildlife.

Watch out for penguins, albatrosses, skuas, giant petrels, sea lions, and of course, Humpback whales.

After lunch we’ll visit the untouched Santa Ines Glacier, part of Santa Ines Island whose fjords and extensive vegetation provide Humpback whales, leopard seals, cormorants and albatross with a safe, pristine home.

Día 3

Sail to Rupert Island and see its Magellanic penguin colony

  • 8 – 10 hours sailing
  • 1.5 hours by private transfer (B-L)

This morning we sail around Rupert Island and have the chance to see fur seals, sea lions and sea birds.

However, the most memorable sighting of the day will be the bustling nesting colony of Magellanic penguins that live on the island.

These dapper, social little penguins (the largest of the Spheniscus genus including Galapagos, Humboldt and African penguins) are an absolute delight to see as they waddle, preen and interact; completely disinterested in the gasps of delight they cause their human visitors.

Alojamientos

Carlos III Eco-Camp

Located in Isla Carlos, Eco Camp Carlos III consists of five dome bedrooms, a communal space, three bathrooms, tents for researchers and an observatory within walking distance from the camp along a path of wooden walkways where the whales are monitored with a view of 280º.

The design and construction of this unique refugio was planned to minimize the impact on this fragile region. For this, the camp rests on piles and platforms that are interconnected by bridges, preventing the deterioration and destruction of peat and its vulnerable ecosystem. Energy production, treatment of waste and liquid waste have also been studied to avoid contamination and excesses. The desire for respect and preservation of the natural environment is perfectly combined with comfort and hospitality.

Amazing trip! We joined the Torres Del Paine 7 day O trek tour - note that this tour is not a complete O Trek but skipping the part from Camp Frances to Las Torres, which worked in our favour as our holiday is limited and we won’t miss much. Our guide, Debbie was knowledgeable and amicable, and very passionate about hiking. Unfortunately I fell sick during the hike and wished to leave a day earlier than planned. Debbie and Chile Nativo quickly rearranged transportation for us and was very helpful. Throughout the whole process Chile Nativo was very responsive. We had a memorable journey and I would highly recommend Chile Nativo.

Fantastic experience! We were booked with Chile Nativo via Swoop and had a wonderful experience. Our guides, Tim & Lucile, were awesome. We really enjoyed their company. They were very knowledgeable about the region (the history, animals, landscape, etc). Highly recommend.

I booked the independent, self-guided Torres Del Paine trek with Chile Nativo’s help and was so glad I did. When I looked to book on my own, everything was all reserved in Torres Del Paine and Chile Nativo was the only agency that could help me find a spot still. To still be able to go on the trip when I wanted to go, to not have to spend so much time planning all the logistics, to get a local’s recommendations on the best way to do the trek…but STILL get to do the trek on my own was amazing and worth every penny. In particular Paolina at the agency was incredibly helpful. I would recommend this agency to anyone looking to hike in Torres del Paine.

Hiking in Torres with Pepa is like walking with your smartest and wisest friend. She has an incredible depth of knowledge in everything from mycology to government, from geology to history. She is fiercely passionate about conservation and our planet and has dedicated her life to making our world a better place. Our two porters Filipe and Bastian were both incredibly strong and highly professional. Always in the know on where to set up the tent, they picked the best spot in every site we were at. Also, they were an absolute blast to hang out with after the long days hiking. I cannot recommend this particular team highly enough and if you are passionate about the environment, making the world a better place, learning everything there is to know about glaciers, mushrooms, Patagonia, the history of Chile, magma intrusions and edible berries request them by name. Thank you to all three of you for making our experience so special and I hope our paths cross again.
