Día 2

Mountain Pass Crossings – Paso Primero, Paso Australia, Paso Los Dientes – Descent Hike of Mount Bettinelli

  • 4-5 Hour Hike,  9 km / 5.6 mi
  • Night at campsite at the base of Mount Bettinelli (B-BL-D)

Today’s route takes you through several mountain passes in the Circuit, starting with the small rocky pass at Paso Primero (705 m / 2,313 ft.), where year-round snow greets visitors at the entrance to the high valley.

The trail follows creeks, loose rock, and lagoons, and provides no end of pause-worthy moments to take in the interplay of blue-green hued lagoons and imposing peaks.

The next pass is Paso Australia, today’s highest point at 776m / 805m (2,546 ft. / 2,641 ft.), though the breath-catching tableaus from the top are not the day’s last.

We’ll continue on to Paso Los Dientes, with dramatic views of the highest peak on Isla Navarino, Picacho Diente (1,118m / 3,668 ft.), and descend to our next camp at the base of Mount Bettinelli.

After setting up camp, we hike to Bettinelli’s summit for more fantastic views of the Cape Horn archipelago.

Día 3

Trek Towards the Untouched Side of the Isla Navarino – Paso Guerrico to Laguna Martillo

  • 3-4 Hour Hike, 8 km / 4.9 mi
  • Night at Camping Laguna Martillo (B-BL-D)

Shrub and native ñirre forests accompany you to Paso Ventarrón (696m / 2,195 ft.), a blustery pass letting trekkers peer through the window to see Isla Navarino’s untouched side: the unexplored wild mountains behind the Dientes de Navarino.

Continue on to Paso Guerrico before circling Laguna Hermosa and taking in the arresting views of Cerro Clem. Tonight, we will make camp at Laguna Martillo.

Día 4

Paso Virginia, the Circuit’s Highest Point – Laguna Los Guanacos

  • 3-5 Hour Hike, 10.5 km / 6.5 mi
  • Night at Camping Laguna Los Guanacos (B-BL-D)

Begin today by circling Laguna Martillo and rock hopping on shores of Laguna Rocallosa.

After descending towards some smaller lagoons, you’ll enter a section of sharply-inclined woods followed by a rocky ascent.

This is the route to Paso Virginia, the highest point in your trek at 859m (2,818 ft.) and keeper of arresting views of the Beagle Canal, Darwin Range, and Laguna Los Guanacos.

After crossing the pass, you’ll begin a steep descent towards Laguna Los Guanacos. Relax, steady your feet and descend slowly.

Día 5

Laguna Los Guanacos to Puerto Williams

  • 2-3 Hour Hike, 4 km / 2.4 mi
  • Night at Hotel Fio Fio

From Laguna Los Guancos descend towards its sister-lagoon, Laguna Las Guanacas.

A river-crossing will take you to the entrance to some woods huddled at the base of rocky cliffs.

Later, the route will cross Calafate berry-covered slopes and lead you once again to views of the Beagle Channel.

Our final stretch today takes us through the Omora Ethnobotanical Park, an investigation and conservation center dedicated to research into the region’s native flora.

Here, we’ll participate in a “miniature forest” experience, using magnifying glasses to peer into the teeny tiny world of lichen, liverworts, and moss.

After arriving in Puerto Williams, stretch your legs as you explore the town. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner and night of restoring slumber at a guesthouse.

FAQ's

Q: Where do I keep my luggage that I won´t need during my trek while I am hiking on this excursion?
R: The majority of the hotels and hostels will store luggage for their guests who are staying with them prior to and after their travels. If needed, we will happily store your luggage securely in our office until you arrive back.

Q: Do I need to travel with my own sleeping bag and tent?
R: You will need to bring our own sleeping bag and sleeping mat along on this trek and you will be required to carry these items with you. Your tent will be provided by Chile Nativo but hikers will be required to share the weight of the equipment among them.

Q: What is the Single Supplement and who must pay this?
R: For the health and safety of our guests, any guest who is not willing to share a double tent with another passenger in their group during trips with nightly camping accommodations, a single supplement is available for a private, single tent.

Q: Will we have porters on this trek who carry some of our weight and personal items?
R: This excursion takes place in a remote area of undisturbed landscapes and offers an adventurous hiking experience. Hikers will share the weight of common equipment, carrying food and tents between them. A group porter and cook will carry the portable toilet and cook meals during your time at the campsites. If you want to avoid carrying too much weight you can pay for a private porter. These porters carry a maximum of 15 kilos in a dry bag provided by Chile Nativo, a service which is usually good to share between 2 – 3 people and must be booked for 5 days (Day 1 to 5).

Q: What type of travel insurance is recommended for this excursion?
R: This particular excursion takes place in extreme and remote areas. Medical emergencies which require field rescue or evacuation can be difficult if not impossible during certain portions of the trails and therefore we strongly recommend that our guests invest in a plan with our partners at Global Rescue. Now more than ever, travelers want the confidence knowing that their decision to invest in a travel insurance is the right one in the event of a security emergency, trip cancellation, or any other unforeseen event – especially now during the current COVID-19 pandemic. Global Rescue will issue guests a refund in the event of any unforeseen circumstance that may restrict or prohibit their ability to travel or in the case they must reschedule their trip including events related to COVID-19. Read more about travel plans on our Travel Insurance Page!

Q: What are the campsites like during this trek?
R: This trek offers a remote camping experience, staying at a basic campsite without access to hot water. A portable camping toilet will be setup for the comfort and privacy of restroom facilities for guests during this excursion.

Amazing trip! We joined the Torres Del Paine 7 day O trek tour - note that this tour is not a complete O Trek but skipping the part from Camp Frances to Las Torres, which worked in our favour as our holiday is limited and we won’t miss much. Our guide, Debbie was knowledgeable and amicable, and very passionate about hiking. Unfortunately I fell sick during the hike and wished to leave a day earlier than planned. Debbie and Chile Nativo quickly rearranged transportation for us and was very helpful. Throughout the whole process Chile Nativo was very responsive. We had a memorable journey and I would highly recommend Chile Nativo.

Fantastic experience! We were booked with Chile Nativo via Swoop and had a wonderful experience. Our guides, Tim & Lucile, were awesome. We really enjoyed their company. They were very knowledgeable about the region (the history, animals, landscape, etc). Highly recommend.

I booked the independent, self-guided Torres Del Paine trek with Chile Nativo’s help and was so glad I did. When I looked to book on my own, everything was all reserved in Torres Del Paine and Chile Nativo was the only agency that could help me find a spot still. To still be able to go on the trip when I wanted to go, to not have to spend so much time planning all the logistics, to get a local’s recommendations on the best way to do the trek…but STILL get to do the trek on my own was amazing and worth every penny. In particular Paolina at the agency was incredibly helpful. I would recommend this agency to anyone looking to hike in Torres del Paine.

Hiking in Torres with Pepa is like walking with your smartest and wisest friend. She has an incredible depth of knowledge in everything from mycology to government, from geology to history. She is fiercely passionate about conservation and our planet and has dedicated her life to making our world a better place. Our two porters Filipe and Bastian were both incredibly strong and highly professional. Always in the know on where to set up the tent, they picked the best spot in every site we were at. Also, they were an absolute blast to hang out with after the long days hiking. I cannot recommend this particular team highly enough and if you are passionate about the environment, making the world a better place, learning everything there is to know about glaciers, mushrooms, Patagonia, the history of Chile, magma intrusions and edible berries request them by name. Thank you to all three of you for making our experience so special and I hope our paths cross again.
