Amazing! We went on our honeymoon, and we couldn’t have asked for more. The guides were excellent, especially Fernando—his knowledge, pleasant nature, and patience were outstanding.

We made great friends with the other members of the group. Pelin was an amazing guide, we had such a great time with her. She has so much knowledge and passion for what she does, making it a wonderful experience to do this hike with her as our guide.

Frequent Questions

What happens if I travel alone?

No problem! We have group departure dates that you can join, with a maximum of 8 travelers to ensure an intimate and authentic experience. If you prefer, we can also arrange a departure based on your schedule and publish it on our website so others can join.

Our pricing policy is based on double rooms, so if you’re traveling alone, you will need to be willing to share a room or tent with someone of the same gender. If you prefer more privacy, we offer the option of a single room, though this may vary depending on the program and is subject to an additional fee.

Additionally, we offer self-guided tours where we take care of all logistics: transportation, meals, and accommodation, so you can just enjoy the adventure to the fullest. Ready for your next adventure?

What is the maximum number of travelers per group?

To provide you with truly personalized service, our fixed departure trips are designed for a maximum of 8 people. However, if you’d like to travel with family or friends, we can create a private tour tailored to any group size. We’re here to make your experience unique!

What type of accommodation do you offer?

The type of accommodation depends on the program you choose. We take care of all logistics so you can enjoy transportation, meals, and lodging. Below, we detail each accommodation option for you to choose according to your needs. Your comfort is guaranteed in every adventure!

Riverside Camp: Located near the Serrano River within Torres del Paine National Park, our Riverside Camp is a unique accommodation that combines sustainability, comfort, and innovative design. Built with 27 tons of recycled plastic, it reflects our commitment to the environment and responsible tourism.

The camp has 11 tents, each equipped to accommodate 2 guests, with the option of a double bed or two single beds and a private bathroom. The camp is 4 meters in diameter and offers 24/7 electricity, heating, and electric blankets for your comfort.

Every aspect of Riverside Camp is carefully designed to offer you an unforgettable experience in harmony with nature and as an example of sustainability in action.

Camping: In the campsites within Torres del Paine National Park, we provide top-quality equipment from internationally recognized brands, designed to withstand extreme weather conditions. For added comfort, we use three-person tents for two people and two-person tents for individual occupancy.

Mountain Refuges: Strategically located along the most iconic hiking routes, the refuges offer a warm and functional environment with shared dormitory-style rooms for 6 people, shared bathrooms, and hot water. Meals are plentiful and enjoyed in a communal setting.

Estancias, Hostels, Lodges, and Hotels

   – Estancias: Reconditioned country houses offering rustic, authentic, and cozy accommodations.

   – Hostels and Lodges: Small hotels, some adapted from old estancias, that offer rooms with private bathrooms and are located in spectacular spots inside and around the National Park.

   – High-end Hotels: We can also arrange your stay at the best hotels in Torres del Paine, such as Explora, Tierra, Awasi, and Patagonia Camp, which offer luxury services with all-inclusive options for an unparalleled experience.

For more details, consult your trip’s itinerary or contact your travel specialist. We’re here to customize your perfect adventure!

Can I travel with my children?

Traveling with children can be an exciting, educational, and unforgettable experience. At Chile Nativo, we’re here to help you plan a tour tailored to your family’s needs. For our fixed departure trips, we require that children be 12 years old or older, as we understand that traveling with little ones involves additional considerations.

For Riverside Camp, you can travel with children of all ages. We offer a camping and trekking experience ideal for families, with comfortable tents, a menu prepared by our chef, and a unique natural setting. Everything is carefully organized by the Chile Nativo team, which handles logistics and operations to ensure a safe and quality experience.

What types of meals are included in the excursions?

he meals prepared by Chile Nativo are based on fresh, natural products, carefully balanced to suit the physical effort of each day. Our famous “box lunches” are provided to our adventurers after their journey and include options such as beef, chicken, guanaco or legumes burgers, homemade bread, a variety of cheeses, avocado, tomato, lettuce, a mix of nuts, fruit, coffee, and tea.

When camping near a refuge, breakfast and dinner are taken there, while the refuges provide the lunches. Additionally, on some excursions, you’ll be able to enjoy an authentic Patagonian lamb barbecue.

We cater to special dietary requirements, such as vegetarian, vegan, or food allergies. Please notify us in advance if your group has particular dietary needs so we can ensure everyone enjoys a pleasant and safe dining experience.

What should I bring with me?

When you book your place on one of our trips, we will send you a detailed list of what to bring based on the type of trip and the part of Chile you’ll be visiting. You can also consult the Travel Details in each itinerary to know what is included and what is not.

As a general rule, keep in mind that Patagonia has unpredictable weather, and you’ll experience “four seasons in one day.” The best strategy is to dress in layers to be prepared for everything, from intense sun to cold, snow, rain, and strong winds.

It’s important to have enough clothing to handle the elements during the day (daypack) and also to pack a change of dry clothes for the night. Some suggestions include:

  • Merino wool or synthetic thermal base layers.
  • Fleece jacket to keep you warm.
  • Waterproof, windproof outer layer to protect you from the elements.
  • Comfortable hiking pants (avoid jeans!).
  • Thermal leggings, down jacket, hat, sunglasses, underwear, and several pairs of hiking socks (preferably seamless to avoid rubbing and blisters).

With this preparation, you’ll be ready to enjoy your Patagonia adventure, no matter what the weather decides to do. The experience will be unforgettable!

Who are my guides?

For trips in Chilean Patagonia, Chile Nativo uses its own guides who live in Patagonia year-round and receive regular training on topics related to flora, fauna, geology, glaciology, and history. Each of them is professionally trained in First Aid (WFR). We invite you to learn more about each of our guides on our website under the “About Us – Team” section.

For organizing your trip to other destinations in Chile, we work with top-level professional operators and their guides to provide you with the Chile Nativo service level.

How difficult are the programs you offer?

In general, our hiking excursions are suitable for people in good physical condition who are used to walking. Experienced and fit hikers are suitable for the W Trek and the Paine Circuit (“O Trek”), while those with limited hiking experience may prefer more relaxed programs like our Photography Safari.

Our horseback riding excursions range from 4 to 6 hours of riding per day, so they are designed for guests with some equestrian experience rather than those looking to learn to ride. Our kayaking excursions are suitable for beginners and are led by professional kayaking guides. Other programs, like Discovering Torres del Paine and Patagonian Estancias, combine a variety of outdoor activities with nights in hotels and our own Chile Nativo Riverside Camp.

What is the booking policy?

A 25% deposit of the total program cost is required to confirm the booking. Once the deposit is received, a pro forma invoice (payment receipt) will be issued and sent to the client. The final payment is due no later than 70 days before the trip start date. Please refer to our terms and conditions for the full booking and cancellation policy.

Do I need travel insurance?

This is essential when traveling in Chile, especially in remote or isolated areas with extreme weather conditions, such as Patagonia. Complications and last-minute accidents may occur, such as flight delays, missed connections, lost luggage, or injuries. These events can cause a series of inconveniences: guests may not arrive in time to start their trip, be unable to continue the trip, need to replace lost equipment, or incur additional costs to catch up with the group. For this reason, we require all guests to have travel insurance that covers health, accidents, and civil liability during their trip. When you complete your contact form, we will ask for your travel insurance information and emergency contact numbers.

Get your insurance with or associate World Nomads HERE.

What kind of transportation is used?

At Chile Nativo, we have our own transportation for transferring our guests. Depending on the group size, we use van-type vehicles or small SUVs. For logistical support, we use pickup trucks, while for independent travel reservations within the park, the transportation is by bus. All our vehicles are air-conditioned and can communicate with our main office via VHF radio.

What type of communication is used on trips?

All our vehicles and guides are equipped with VHF radio equipment, allowing us to stay in constant contact with our central offices and the relevant authorities. Currently, there is no cellular reception near or within the boundaries of Torres del Paine National Park. When visiting remote areas, we carry a satellite phone for emergencies.

Do you recommend staying extra days in the area?

Depending on your program, we recommend staying at least one day in Santiago, Chile’s capital, or in Punta Arenas or Puerto Natales to rest before departure. It’s advisable to arrive at least one day before your program starts and stay one more day after it finishes. To learn more about program extensions or to arrange one-day excursions before or after your main program, please contact us.

What payment methods do you accept?

Payment methods available include bank transfer, deposit from your bank to ours in Chile, or credit card payment through a secure online system. Please check our Terms and Conditions for more information.

Is it safe to drink water in Patagonia?

In our programs, we use water from rivers and streams. The glacial water in Torres del Paine National Park is safe, clean, and free of parasites. We’ve never had issues with our guests, but if you don’t feel comfortable drinking this water, we suggest bringing water purification tablets with you.

What is the weather like in southern Patagonia?

The weather in Patagonia is famous for experiencing four seasons in one day. Erratic temperatures and changing conditions such as wind, sun, rain, and snow are common. In the summer months (October-April), temperatures range from 18- 20°C (67-74°F) to 8-12°C (45-55°F). Summer days are long, allowing you to enjoy the outdoors with daylight until 11 pm around the summer solstice on December 21. In winter, winds calm down, and the weather is generally more stable, though colder temperatures and higher chances of snowfall occur. Average high temperatures in winter range from 14-16°C (55-60°F) to 3-4°C (35-40°F).

Do you organize private tours?

Yes, we organize private tours. You can book a private group departure date (additional fees may apply for groups of fewer than 8 people) or design a tailor-made trip that fits your individual interests. We’re happy to organize it. Contact us to book your private group or complete our custom form.

Why should I travel with Chile Nativo?

We are a small mountain guiding company and travel experts with extensive experience in organizing itineraries. We are passionate about our country, especially Patagonia. Our guides are creative cooks, passionate naturalists, adventure companions, and proud travel professionals. We’ve created new tour options that allow you to enjoy our country in an intelligent and safe way. To optimize our personalized service and ensure a pleasant experience, we run small groups of no more than 8 people. Best of all, our staff are friends, love the outdoors, adore their work, and it shows.

What type of saddles do you use for the horses?

We use Chilean-style saddles, similar to those used in Texas (but without the horn at the front) with closed stirrups. They are generally covered with a soft layer of sheepskin for extra padding. This style of saddle is very comfortable and designed for long trips.

What type of horses do you use?

We use Criollo horses, descendants of Berber and Andalusian horses brought by the Spanish. Criollo horses are strong, agile, and well-suited for the conditions of Patagonia. The temperament of these horses is calm and docile, which makes them ideal for the varied terrain we cross during our horseback riding trips.

Do I need a visa to enter Chile?

We recommend checking with your local Consulate or Embassy for the most up-to-date information.

For most nationalities, no visa is required to travel to Chile, just a valid passport. Upon entering Chile (whether by cruise, vehicle, or plane), you will need to complete a PDI Tourist Card at Customs, which allows you to stay up to 90 days and enter multiple times within that period. Keep this card in a safe place, as it proves you are a tourist, which exempts you from paying the 19% sales tax applied to hotel accommodations. You will also need to show it when leaving Chile.

Australian citizens are required to obtain an e-visa before traveling to Chile. This e-visa must be secured prior to departure, as it is necessary for boarding flights to Chile.

TAXES: Hotels exempt the 19% sales tax on rooms when guests show their PDI Tourist Card and pay in U.S. dollars.

Should I leave tips during my experience with Chile Nativo

It is customary for those visiting to leave tips for guides and porters (between 15 and 20 USD per day) and for drivers (between 10 and 15 USD per day).
