What is plastic wood? At Riverside Camp, we have transformed over 28 tons of plastic waste into an eco-friendly and sustainable glamping experience, all thanks to our collaboration with Patagonia Circular. Located near the stunning Serrano River and the Torres del Paine National Park, Riverside Camp offers a unique ecotourism experience that connects you with nature in an innovative way.

The innovation of Riverside Camp: Eco-wood and sustainability

In Chile, we are pioneers in the use of plastic wood, an innovative material that transforms plastic waste into a valuable resource for construction. Riverside Camp is the first campsite in Chile built with reused materials from the Magallanes region. Thanks to our collaboration with Patagonia Circular, a company committed to the circular economy and sustainability, we have been able to build our facilities using eco-wood, a 100% recycled material that is water and fire-resistant and completely sustainable.

A solution to the plastic challenge

More than 115 years after the invention of plastic, we continue to face its consequences. In Chile, each person generates an average of 2.5 pounds of plastic waste per day, and in the Torres del Paine region, the number increases to 28.7 pounds per person. Circular economy is a direct response to this challenge, and at Riverside Camp, we work to transform this problem into a sustainable solution.

Eco-friendly glamping with innovative technology

The base of each tent at Riverside Camp is made from over 28 tons of recycled plastic waste, transformed into eco-wood thanks to Patagonia Circular. This process not only prevents plastics from reaching the sea but also extends their lifespan for more than 100 years. Moreover, the material is easy to handle, requires no additional treatment, and is completely environmentally friendly.

Sustainable benefits for the community

Thanks to this sustainability project, impressive results have been achieved:

  • 96 trees saved from being cut down.
  • A reduction of 77,391 pounds of CO2 (equivalent to the emissions from cars traveling 90,888 miles).
  • A saving of 39,004 cubic meters of water, which is equivalent to 39,004 five-minute showers.
  • 390,040 plastic containers that would have otherwise polluted the sea and nature were avoided.

A real impact on the environment

At Riverside Camp, we don’t just offer a camping experience; we also teach valuable lessons on how innovation and collaboration can bring about significant change on the planet. Through Patagonia Circular, we are contributing to the local economy and helping to reduce the environmental impact of tourism.

At Chile Nativo, we are committed to ecotourism and aim to transform every action into a planet-frendly solution. Riverside Camp is just one example of how we are taking adventure tourism towards greater sustainability. Thanks to this collaboration with Patagonia Circular, we are taking an important step in offering a more responsible and eco-friendly tourism experience.

Riverside Camp is proof of how tourism and sustainability can go hand in hand. By choosing this campsite, you will not only enjoy a stunning natural setting, but you will also be supporting an initiative that helps reduce carbon footprints and preserve the local ecosystem. If you’re looking for a unique and eco-friendly experience near Torres del Paine, Riverside Camp is your ideal destination.
