We are honored to announce our partnership with Tomorrow’s Air as we begin to extract 600kg of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through Climeworks using #DirectAirCapture technology to permanently store carbon underground.
Carbon removal alongside deep emissions reductions will be needed to reach and sustain global carbon neutrality.
By 2030 as much as 6 gigatonnes of carbon emissions need to be pulled from the atmosphere and stored each year.
The Intergovernmental on Panel on Climate Change and the National Academies of Science and Medicine have written that negative emissions technologies will be required in addition to dramatic reductions in human emissions in order to stabilize our climate.
Negative emissions technologies such as carbon removal and storage through direct air capture are not yet mainstream.
We need a large community of early adopters to support it. With enough people who care about air, we will remove carbon from the atmosphere and cue to policymakers and large investors to take action as well.

Subscribers receive a monthly record of their carbon removal and access to a curated set of travel benefits.
Air is pulled into a carbon removal collector with a fan. Carbon dioxide is captured on the surface of a filter inside the collectors. Once the filter is full with carbon dioxide, the collector is closed. High concentration carbon dioxide is mixed with water and pumped deep underground. Through natural mineralization, the carbon dioxide reacts with basalt rock and turns into rock.
Tomorrow’s Air partner Climeworks pioneered modular CO₂ collectors that can be stacked to build machines of any size.
Climeworks direct air capture machines are powered solely by renewable energy or energy-from-waste.
Natural carbon removal solutions such as increasing carbon storage in natural systems – for example in soil through regenerative grazing – are important.
But no one is sure whether these solutions alone could be used broadly enough to help us keep global warming in check. Therefore, we need to simultaneously ensure that technological carbon removal solutions such as direct air capture can be widely deployed within a few decades.
Broad application of carbon removal solutions has been held back by public and policy makers’ lack of awareness.
In the next ten years – by 2030 – 6 gigaton of carbon dioxide needs to be removed from the atmosphere. We can do it if we act now and work together to remove what we can, expand our knowledge and encourage others to follow our lead.

She has an incredible depth of knowledge in everything from mycology to government, from geology to history. She is fiercely passionate about conservation and our planet and has dedicated her life to making our world a better place. Our two porters Filipe and Bastian were both incredibly strong and highly professional. Always in the know on where to set up the tent, they picked the best spot in every site we were at. Also, they were an absolute blast to hang out with after the long days hiking. I cannot recommend this particular team highly enough and if you are passionate about the environment, making the world a better place, learning everything there is to know about glaciers, mushrooms, Patagonia, the history of Chile, magma intrusions and edible berries request them by name.
